THREE SECOND-HALF GOALS GIVE READING THE WIN

Reading’s second-half magic secured a 3-0 victory over Cambridge United, pushing the Royals into the League One top six. Skipper Lewis Wing led the way with two stunning goals, while Mamadi Camara added to the tally on a cold evening in Berkshire.

The match began with Cambridge on the front foot, dominating the early moments. Within the first minute, Korey Smith fired a volley over the bar, giving Reading an early scare. The visitors kept up the pressure with a series of chances, but the Royals’ defence held firm. Reading eventually grew into the game, creating opportunities through Ben Elliott and Sam Smith, but Cambridge goalkeeper Vicente Reyes was equal to the task. The first half ended goalless, despite efforts from both sides to break the deadlock.

SECOND-HALF GOALS SPARK ROYALS’ WIN

The second half began with a bang as Lewis Wing capitalised on a defensive error just three minutes in, slotting a low shot into the corner to give Reading the lead. Cambridge responded quickly, testing Joel Pereira, but the Royals’ keeper stood strong.

The home side doubled their advantage on the hour mark. A brilliant run by Ben Elliott set up Mamadi Camara, who turned his marker before smashing the ball into the top corner. Just three minutes later, Wing struck again with a sensational long-range curler, leaving Reyes with no chance.

The Royals managed the final stages with confidence, delighting the fans with composed possession play. Late substitutions gave youngster Emmanuel Osho his league debut, and Reading comfortably saw out the 3-0 victory.

Next, Reading face a tough away fixture against league leaders Wycombe Wanderers, but this professional display will give them plenty of momentum going forward.
